Los Angeles
The Guardian Los Angeles Scholarship Program is a transformative initiative in South Los Angeles, supporting 30 underserved youth through year-round Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) classes. This program offers much more than just martial arts training, it provides a holistic environment that includes mentorship, academic tutoring, nutritious meals, and sponsorship for local BJJ tournaments. The scholarship program ensures participants have access to essential training gear like uniforms, rash guards, and belts, removing financial barriers to participation.
Dominick Haider, the founder of Omni Jiu Jitsu and the Guardian Los Angeles Scholarship, has been a member of the South Los Angeles community for the past 14 years. Haider identified the need for after-school activities to keep young people away from negative influences on the streets. With his background in the culinary arts, Haider integrated a healthy meals initiative into the program, providing students with nutritious snacks and meals after classes.
Our vision extends beyond the mats. We aim to empower these young individuals to become effective leaders in their communities, equipped with the skills and confidence to navigate life’s challenges. Through the Guardian Los Angeles Scholarship Program, we strive to forge a path of positive influence and lasting change, ensuring that every participant has the opportunity to thrive both in and out of the gym. This is more than a sports program; it’s a commitment to fostering strong, healthy, and supportive futures for the youth of South Los Angeles.
